Dr. Bud Bence

Dr. Bud Bence is a professor of historical theology and a church historian at Indiana Wesleyan University and Wesley Seminary. He has served in the pastorate and as professor at United Wesleyan College and Indiana Wesleyan University. Dr. Bence held the positions of Academic Dean at Houghton College and Vice President and Academic Dean at Indiana Wesleyan University. He has received awards for “excellence in teaching” and has been honored as Professor of the Year (1987) by students. Bud was inducted into the Hall of Fame of Gates-Chili (NY) High School (2001) and was honored by Asbury Theological Seminary as their Distinguished Alumnus for 2007.
Recently retired, Dr. Bence continues to devote energies in teaching students at Wesley Seminary. Students say that he “makes them think.” Dr. Bence has authored a number of volumes on the book of Romans and was an editor for the NIV Study Bible. He is married to Carol a graduate of Columbia University and nurse educator. The Bences have three grown children and one grandchild.
