Bill and Gloria Gaither invite you to visit their home town of Alexandria, Indiana and spend some time at Gaither Family Resources. You will find a place of real community and creative solitude. Spend some time browsing through our 12 beautifully decorated “life centers.” You will find unique gifts, original artwork, home décor items and a wonderful selection of books. You are welcome to curl up in a big comfy chair and read for a while!

A brand new conference room was recently added to Gaither Family Resources. This comfortable room, called The Common Place, provides a warm atmosphere for meetings and lunches and can be reserved upon request.

Indianapolis Zoo

The Zoo includes five biomes: Waters Biome, featuring the aquatic life; Deserts Biome, highlighting life in desert habitats; Plains Biome, including animals of both the African and Australian plains; Forests Biome, with animals of temperate and tropical forests; Encounters Biome, providing a close experience with domestic animals from around the world.The Zoo now has approximately 3,800 specimens of 320 species of animals, including 16 endangered species, four threatened species, and 13 Species Survival (SSP) animal species. Plants play an important role in transforming the Indianapolis cityscape into Forest, Plain, and Desert environments. The Zoo has more than 1,900 species of plants in its collection.

Biome - a living habitat for the animals at the zoo that attempts to replicate their natural habitat as much as possible.

Conner Prairie

Conner Prairie is a large, open-air living history museum made up of five distinct historic areas, a modern museum center and over 1,400 acres of natural beauty. Conner Prairie’s mission is to serve as a local, regional and national center for education and activities exploring the lives, times and values of the 1800s in America.It’s a place where stories are preserved for the future. Programs range from the joyful festivity of an 1836 wedding to the dark uncertainty of the Underground Railroad.

Whitewater Valley Railroad

The Whitewater Valley Railroad is an organization that promotes the preservation of history.Whitewater Valley Railroad was formed as a not-for-profit corporation in 1972, and began weekend passenger operations in 1974. Operations have always been entirely by volunteers. The railroad operates historically significant diesel locomotives and open window coaches on a regular schedule, from Connersville to Metamora.

Another Whitewater Valley Railroad train operates as the Metamora Shuttle, carrying passengers further South on a two-mile excursion along the restored canal, past the Canal Boat dock, a working aquaduct, and a restored lock.

President Benjamin Harrison Home

The residence of President Benjamin Harrison, the 23rd President of the United States, is now a museum dedicated to his life. He was President 100 years after George Washington, which made him the Centennial President. The Harrison Home houses some 3,700 artifacts and 2,440 books. About 75% of the artifacts in the home actually belonged to the Harrison’s. In the home the visitors see ten of the rooms with period furnishings and Harrison items.

Children’s Museum of Indianapolis

The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is one of the largest children’s museum in the world. The 356,000-square-foot facility houses 10 major galleries that explore the physical and natural sciences, history, world cultures and the arts. The Children’s Museum is a place to learn and do. Whenever possible, exhibits are “hands-on”.

The museum, situated on 13 acres of land in Indianapolis, presents thousands of programs and activities each year.
